Good luck with everything! I hope you find pleasant part-time work and are able to continue your comics!

I knew this webcomic once (well I didn't KNOW him, but I read the comic) who was doing updates x amount of times a week and working a full-time job but it got to be too much for him and he couldn't keep up with the comic. So then he was like, hey, you guys keep complaining that I'm failing over here but I can't do this AND make a living. If you guys want daily updates so bad, there's a PayPal button over there, I need about $23,000 to live for a year. If I get that, I will quit my job and work only on the comic. And he got the money o_O

Yeah somethingpositive is awesome, I think he did that like three or four years ago, and has been doing well ever since.

Of course relying on that means he'll probably die soon because of stress, but that makes for good comics, so everyone wins.

You should come here to Maui. Chicago?? Fuggeda-boutit!

Maui is EXPENSIVE but beautiful and nice weather (like Mexico?) and there are LOTS of part time jobs and guys like you trying to find some easier, softer, funnier way to live.

*grins* I love your comics and will continue a fan even if you go to Chicago.

This is a good idea

I am told it is much cheaper to live in Maui if you live on a boat.
Actually, this is true anywhere with large bodies of water.
I stayed on a boat for a year, and would still be there if my land(dock?)lord was not a dick who thought it was ok to come aboard and root through my stuff when I was at work.
All in all it was wonderful and serene.
Still worth a go.

You've always been a huge inspiration/motivation to me since someone pointed me in your direction so you can add that to your list of failings. I always wished I had known about you sooner! What you've done in the time I've been following you will probably stick in my head and motivate me my entire life.

Come start another commune with me somewhere! It is my goal now to live with other cartoonists and also to have no rent. (That, you know, or actually make money from this and live somewhere half decent... but the living with cartoonists bit is the same!)

maybe you should find an old school patron; one who will put you up, give you money, and show you and your idiosyncrasy off at parties in order to appear cutting edge and smart.

As sad as it is that the commune is dissolving, it is a plus that you're moving to Chicago. This increases the probability that you might be at a convention near me and/or we might run into one another while panhandling in the streets.

Does this mean that custom comics won't be available anymore? I've been wanting to get one made up for a while, but I haven't been able to think up a good enough request yet. :\

i probably won't close custom comics until a week or two before i leave. and i will probably open them up again once i get settled in chicago, so you do not have too much to worry about.

I think I am happy to have contributed money to drinking, this was my first reaction.

"Failure" is such a subjective concept to be useless to comment on, but I think if lots of really awesome people like you you've gotta be doing something right. But I have to think that or I get sad all the time.

As someone who laid some money down for a custom comic, I am totally ok with you spending it on booze.

As long as it was not Strongbow or Icehouse.

Congratulations on not being sure about anything!

But if you were anything like the rest of us--which I sincerely doubt, Mr. "Campbell"--then you're used to that.

Welcome back, in advance, to Illinois.
