there you have it, last two days of hourly comics, i feel sick so i'm going back to bed. a couple hours left on the original art auction. thanks to everybody who hourly comicked. to the people who basically kept up with hourly comics over the whole month: what did you think? would you do it again? what was your strategy! ryan peq, why aren't you done with yours yet, etc.

I really enjoyed this thing. I think when I do it again I'm going to sketch them out in more detail, and then ink them all when I get home and can concentrate on what I'm doing so they look a lot better.

I didn't mind it until the last few days, I'd probably do it again, my strategy was mostly to draw a comic every hour but then I figured it'd be ok to do them from notes and that is why I am not finished yet - because I am lazy and because that was not a very good idea.

yeah, i think fear of getting way behind is the main reason i do it every hour. also, my memory is awful and i'm certain i would take notes that i wouldn't understand later. i also get really just psychologically tired, i think. a convertible just drove by blaring macho man and i had a little internal battle trying to get myself to stop thinking: how am i going to draw that how am i going to draw that. etc.

Yeah, once you start getting behind it turns more and more into a dumb chore because instead of having one comic to do, you have 34. I've only had to reconstruct a couple comics from memory thanks to my having the foresight to write decent notes with punchlines and such, but it's still not a great way to go about keeping up. Also, I think knowing that the end of the month was coming helped me feel less guilty about going to bed rather than drawing comics, which is something I'll have to be smarter about next time, if there is a next time.

This is my third Hourly Comic Day and yes, I'll definitely do it again next year. Strategy? Were we supposed to have a strategy? I tried my best not to sit around the house and be boring all day, I suppose that's a strategy.

I broke my wrist doing these. You'll be hearing from my lawyer, as he shouts very loudly.

I note that you continue to draw Vlad with a beard, even though I know as well as you do that he shaved it off. Now that I can see iconographic truth is more important to you than literal fact...well, let's just say that the disillusionment has tarnished my view of Hourly Comics--and perhaps John Campbell--FOREVER.

next time it should be on a day that i am not working because it is near impossible to comic while washing dishes for 8 hours (but somehow you comic and drive). it couldn't be on a day like today where i went snowboarding.

would i do it again? yes. would i read yours again? yes.

i ended up using notes pretty extensively. there were days when i drew fifteen comics the next morning, right before scanning them, but that mostly happened toward the end. switching to a sketchbook capable of more than one hour per page was key. and, uh, well, borrowing a friend's scanner for a month made it possible to do at all.

the main thing i worried about, and indeed the most difficult, was choosing which moment to write about. some hours were jam-packed, others totally dead. i feel like i ended up with 75% inner thoughts, which were not as interesting to me as little observations about things around me. rainsoaked paperbacks, crazy guys on the street; these were the kind of things i would do more of next time around.

I didn't do one but I read yours like my morning coffee and now I plan on doing it myself... someday when I have more than 5 minutes a day to breath.

Like maybe in 2 months when I quit my job and take 2 months off to be unemployed and concentrate of drawing! I guess that would be a good time to do it.

But we'll see. I fear that my life is too unstable to wait until January and hope to god I'm in a position to do this.

i tried to do it friday, and succeeded until 6 pm, when i had to go do friday night services at hillel (and writing is not really allowed on shabbat, so...). partying ensued, thus i did not make comics. notebooks are a bit unwieldy when one is bumpin' and grindin'. like ya do.

hopefully i'll finish the rest of the day from memory soon and post it. it's not as good as the one i did on some random december day, i think...maybe i'll just post that one instead.

This year was much better/easier than last year.
I over thought it last year. This time I just blew through it and
enjoyed it WAY more. I spent most of my time hoping something more
important would happen...then it never would.
Can't wait until next time. Maybe we should make the leap and make
this biannual...

I only started reading your comics here a couple of months ago, but I've enjoyed them and was eager to take part in Hourly Comic Day.
So I did.

I really enjoyed doing it, although I probably won't be able to scan them into a computer until Monday night. Thanks for the idea, I'm glad it's taken off like it has.

I looked forward to seeing yours each day, something that made January worthwhile! I enjoyed doing mine, if I did it again I'd ink over the pencil before scanning cos some came out a little faint, and apparently my writing is hard to read (no, my friend doesn't have a calendar of semi-naked hens!!) Next year should be easier, as it'll be a Sunday I think! :)

i loved the whole month. i tried to do the day thing, and made it to like noon and then forgot because i watched LOTR and that kind of throws me off, time-wise.

i loved the mexico city adventure, except that it meant my hourly checking was futile for a while there.

i was wondering if you would ever consider doing just daily ones about the stuff you did, and if that wouldn't be a lot easier to handle but would still give me my JC fix. you would probably need more panels, but it would be an interesting way to process and reflect on your day without keeping a lame diary.

i can only hope that you will start updating pictures for sad children daily from now on. the hourly comic was the only thing that kept me sane during the period of no new comics.

Dude,

You really have to do more of this.. I read the comic every like 5 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. It was really frikkin awesome, please start again as soon as possible :P I have tried to do it myself as well, but failed in an epic manner. First, I didn't remember for certain hours what the hell I was doing and second I can't draw. But plz: Post more Hourly Comic!

I decided I didnt deserve to go to Stumptown unless I could do an hourly comic day. Then I deserved to go to Stumptwn for one day, until I found out I needed $1000 gum surgery. But I was very happy with my comic day and I will do it again. http://sunahweb.com/cgi/storyprinter.cgi?Life/2008.04.05.Comics_1.shtml
